Back to School Fair offers info & resources on children’s health

Metropolitan’s Healthy Minds – Healthy Children – Healthy Chicago (H3) program, in coordination with other members of the Englewood Clinic Coalition, spearheaded a hugely successful 3rd annual Back to School Fair!

H3, a pediatric health and wellness center where mental health is integrated with pediatric primary care, joined forces with UI Health, YWCA, Chicago Department of Public Health, Howard Brown Health, UIC Department of Pediatrics and Chicago Torture Justice Center, gathering more than 40 vendors for the fair.

Approximately 85 adults attended, and 130 children are now heading off to school prepared with a backpack full of school supplies donated by the clinic organizations and their partners.

Kids enjoyed a bouncy house, mobile arcade and face painting, and kids and adults alike learned about healthy snacks and exercise, even riding a “nutrition bike” to power their own smoothie machines.

The Dovetail Project generously donated their labor to set up 20 tables with chairs and even put together the foam letter flooring for the Chicago Public Library storytime area.

The Chicago Mounted Police unit created a chance for many people to pet a horse for the first time while improving relationships with local police, and many children enjoyed climbing into a fire truck to explore being a firefighter.

Attendees received their CityKey IDs, haircuts, dental exams and school supplies, and everyone learned valuable information about children’s health, community and educational resources!
