Principal at Community Schools partner Belmont-Cragin School wins Golden Apple Leadership Award!
Congratulations to Stacy Stewart, Principal at one of our North Center’s Community Schools partners, Belmont-Cragin School, on winning Golden Apple’s Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award!
The award, presented in memory of Stanley C. Golder, a founding board member of Golden Apple, honors exemplary performance in school leadership by a principal or head of school from the Chicagoland area.

Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson spoke highly of Stacy at the ceremony. “Every single time I am in her presence, she has talked about one thing and one thing only: that is the children and the wonderful staff here at Belmont-Cragin School. She always has the highest degree of optimism about what is happening and what is possible. She inspires me and other educators in this district to do our very best on behalf of the children.”
In accepting the award, Stacy said, “Strive for excellence in everything you do, and never give up on your dreams, because at Belmont-Cragin we believe that every child matters.”
Our North Center’s partnership with Belmont-Cragin has flourished in large part due to Stacy’s engaging leadership.
- We partner with ComEd to train 5th graders on “Energizing Student Potential,” which teaches children about sustainability and how they can impact it
- To build confidence with parents and increase parent engagement, our North Center staff has worked with the Parent Advisory Committee to provide Math training for the parents
- We launched a Girls On The Run program at Belmont-Cragin, and had 100% participation among our girls for their first 5K
- To increase nutrition and food choices, we’ve collaborated on curriculum with Common Threads as a strategic partner
- We offer our Parenting Fundamentals and Substance Abuse Prevention Program at Belmont-Cragin
