Board of Directors visits and tours our Calumet Center
Our Calumet Center recently hosted a special group of supporters in our Metropolitan family: our Board of Directors!
The tour included a visit to We Grow, the community-led initiative helping to bring about transformation in West Englewood with Metropolitan’s support, a peek inside a new space our Calumet Center will expand into, presentations from our staff and Calumet Community Board Members, and a resource fair highlighting the services we offer from the center we call our “Miracle on 103rd Street.”
At WeGrow’s Peace Campus, Chelle Rachad, leader of WeGrow partner Imagine Englewood If … welcomed our group alongside her team. We learned more about the collaborative’s impact, walked through its expansive community garden, and enjoyed artwork and murals decorating the garden’s gate and surrounding homes.
Our Calumet Center tour included a welcome from Calumet Executive Director Carrie Pullie, Calumet Community Board Co-Chairs Jorge Farr-Aguilar and Eric Thompson, and Ald. Anthony A. Beale (9th Ward). Carrie, along with leaders from her team, shared highlights of Calumet’s expanding housing services for domestic violence survivors, as well as the Center’s behavioral health services, which reach clients ages 5 to 70+.
We also stepped into a building adjacent to the Center, which will be built into an expansion, providing much-needed additional space for clinical services and staff.
The day ended with Board Members enjoying a resource fair, with site-wide staff sharing insights on Calumet’s many services, and taking home treats from Old Fashioned Donuts, a celebrated Black-owned, Roseland-based bakery that has been a customer favorite for more than 50 years.
Thank you to Carrie and her team for their outstanding work, and special shout-out to Tyrese, an alum of our Altgeld Youth Leadership Program, for taking photos throughout the day!
We’re grateful to host our Board Members for a unique experience of Metropolitan Calumet.
