Happy Retirement to our CFO, Denis Hurley!
One of Metropolitan’s finest is leaving Metropolitan after 37 years. Chief Financial Officer Denis Hurley has retired from the agency, effective March 1, 2020.
“Denis understood, advocated and cared deeply about our programs because of the people we serve,” shared CEO Ric Estrada.
Metropolitan staff, board members, and supporters joined Denis’s family for a retirement party at the University Club to thank him for his extraordinary service to the organization.
Denis has played a lead role at Metropolitan and in its ability to be a human services leader. He has Mpowered the organization and lived our agency’s values in many ways, including:
- He helped equip leadership staff to be responsible for their budgets. He explained things in a way “non-math/accounting people” could understand, teaching them how to manage their budgets. In the process he enabled managers and supervisors to grow programs more effectively.
- Denis understood that in challenging times, only so much can be cut – that we have to grow. That mindset has helped us become the large, caring and comprehensive agency – reaching more than 93,000 clients – that we are today.
- He helped build – in partnership with Metropolitan’s Facilities Director Ted Thelen and our board leaders – six Metropolitan Center buildings (Midway, Palos, Wheaton, Calumet, North and Southeast Chicago) – between 1994 and 2003, during the agency’s first two capital campaigns.
- He mentored 3 CEOs and many other senior Metropolitan leaders.
Metropolitan has been fortunate to have a person of Denis’ talent and experience serve so long and so well. Please join us in thanking Denis for all he’s done for MFS, and to wish him the best!
