Howard Area Community Center is now the Howard & Evanston Community Center!

We are excited to welcome a new member of the Metropolitan Family – the Howard & Evanston Community Center!

The Howard & Evanston Community Center (HECC) officially joins MFS on July 1, 2023. Formerly known as the Howard Area Community Center, HECC shares MFS’ commitment to empowerment – starting in 1967 as a food pantry devoted to helping individuals and families living in the Greater Rogers Park Area on Chicago’s far North Side. Today HECC continues to feed thousands and provide a wide variety of human services designed, like MFS, to “wraparound” clients’ needs.

MFS and HECC have been working since 2021 to lay the groundwork for this change, which is designed to strengthen HECC and ensure its local community impact for years to come. Both agencies share many core services, such as Head Start/early learning, workforce, domestic violence and more. HECC also has unique programming that is providing models for new initiatives in MFS’ existing communities.

In addition, together we will now be able to jointly strengthen our ability to serve Evanston. HECC draws clients from Evanston, and through this focus, MFS will be rebuilding and expanding its ability to serve clients there. We are excited about the opportunities ahead!

MFS and HECC share a passion for “Mpowering” those we serve. With HECC being part of MFS, we look forward to doing that on an even greater level for residents of the Greater Rogers Park Area and Evanston, today and into the future.
