Following is a list of our most current volunteer opportunities. New volunteer projects are created regularly or as needs arise. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in one of these listed opportunities or if you would like to offer assistance in another way.
Upward Bound Program
Looking to donate your valuable time and help make a difference in the lives of youth? Then we have the opportunity for you!Upward Bound, a program for first-generation college-bound students from low-income families, is looking for volunteers to help high school seniors write essays/personal statements, complete college applications, assist with scholarship searches and complete financial aid applications.
The volunteer time commitment is approximately three hours each month or as deadlines dictate. Upward Bound students meet:
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Metropolitan’s Calumet Center, 235 East 103rd Street, Chicago.
Legal Aid Volunteers
The Legal Aid Bureau’s (LAB’s) Pro Bono Program allows volunteers to make equal access to justice a reality. We match volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and student interns with litigation/non-litigation opportunities based on their interests and availability. Volunteers learn new skills in an intimate setting, use their current skills to broaden resources for LAB clients and provide vital legal services to the most vulnerable individuals living in communities served by Metropolitan Family Services’ community centers.
