Marcie Peterson pours everything she has into helping others as a philanthropist, executive leader, and volunteer. During the course of nearly 4 decades, she’s helped raise millions of dollars for organizations like Metropolitan Family Services, the College of DuPage Foundation, and Wheaton Junior Women’s Club. Her focus remains making our community a better place.

The daughter of a Doctor and a Nurse, Marcie’s strong service-minded upbringing began in Niles, Ohio. Growing up, she was the only girl in a family with 3 brothers who taught her about team work as they sailed together on Lake Erie. A graduate of Ohio University, she met her husband Mark Peterson and moved to Wheaton. Right away, she felt a calling to help others, working with the Wheaton Junior Women’s Club and serving as the organization’s President.

Marcie lives her passions– coordinating large-scale events, leading teams, and fundraising for causes near and dear to heart. She focuses on promoting education, delivering health and wellness services, and making the arts more accessible. Her impressive resume producing incredible events led her to become the first female chair of Metropolitan Family Services DuPage.

Marcie Peterson was a driving force in bringing the world renowned “Frida Kahlo: Timeless” exhibit to the Cleve Carney Museum at the College of DuPage. The popularity of Frida opened the doors for “Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop” project. Throughout both major art exhibits, Marcie was behind the scenes hosting auctions and private gatherings to guarantee an amazing showing.

Marcie lives in Wheaton with her husband, Mark. She has 3 grown children—Erin, Patrick, and Matthew. When she’s not focused on philanthropic endeavours, her favorite place is with her grandchildren: Lucy (7), Meredith (6), Stanley (4), and Caleb (2).

As a this year’s recipient of the Roger K. Johnson Leadership Award, Marcie A. Peterson is not only making a difference today, but is also shaping a brighter future for DuPage County.

ABOUT THE ROGER K. JOHNSON LEADERSHIP AWARD

Roger K. Johnson was the fourth Executive Director of Metropolitan Family Services DuPage, formerly Family Services of DuPage. Roger was a dedicated social worker, whose caring and commitment to at-risk families earned him the respect of all those in the human services arena in DuPage and beyond. Under Roger’s guidance, then-Family Services of DuPage joined with what is today Metropolitan Family Services.

The recipient of the Roger K. Johnson Leadership Award works to empower Metropolitan Family Services DuPage in carrying out its mission “to provide and mobilize the services needed to strengthen families and communities.” A voice for strong families as the foundation of society, the honoree understands the important ways families shape the identities of their members and teach important life lessons, such as responsibility, respect, and concern for others and our community.

The honoree serves as a role model to others and advocates on behalf of families and Metropolitan Family Services DuPage. Metropolitan, and the families it serves, directly benefit from their values, vision, interests, philanthropy and volunteer service.
