About the Metro Board

The Metro Board is a dynamic group of young professionals who volunteer their time and resources to Metropolitan Family Services, a leading human services agency that has been helping families throughout Chicago and its suburbs realize their amazing strength for 150 years. The Metro Board, one of the city's first young leadership boards, offers members the opportunity to work with other members from a diverse range of professional backgrounds to support Metropolitan Family Services through various social activities.

Mission

The Metro Board's mission is to increase awareness of the challenges facing families in metropolitan Chicago and of the programs, services and public advocacy that Metropolitan Family Services offers to address these challenges. The Metro Board also works to support Metropolitan Family Services by fundraising and sponsoring events for the agency's clients.

Meetings

The Metro Board meets monthly on third Tuesdays (odd-numbered months) or Wednesdays (even-numbered months) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Family Services, One North Dearborn, 10th Fl., Chicago, Ill.

Activities

The Metro Board hosts several major events each year including:

  • A December holiday party held at the Hunt Club. Proceeds benefit Metropolitan Family Services' Holiday Gift Program, which donated gifts to more than 1,000 needy children and seniors in 2006.
  • metropolis, an annual event held the beginning of June that attracts more than 350 young professionals from the Chicago area, featuring an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and a silent auction at Galleria Marchetti, one of the most exciting venues in the city.

Proceeds benefit Metropolitan's child abuse prevention, child protection and domestic violence programs, including the Legal Aid Bureau of Metropolitan Family Services' work in these areas.

  • Working with Metropolitan Family Services' client families, including roller skating and bowling events with members of the Metropolitan Midway Center's Teen Resource Center.

Financial Commitment

Metro Board members are asked to contribute $200 annually and participate in the success of its fund-raisers by encouraging guest attendance.
