Case Type Eligibility

LAB provides assistance to financially eligible clients with legal issues related to domestic violence, elder abuse, and elder law and on Chicago's South Side, housing and consumer issues.

To Make an Appointment

You must call our intake number, (312) 986-4200, during intake hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Intake Specialists determine over the telephone whether you are financially eligible and whether the case is one that LAB accepts for initial assessment. LAB cannot represent you if the opposing party in your case was, or is, represented by LAB because this creates a conflict. If you are financially and case-type eligible and pass the conflict check, you will be given an appointment with an attorney or paralegal. Intake is available in Spanish and English.

Downtown Appointments

Appointments are available at the Legal Aid Bureau's main office, located at One North Dearborn, 10th Floor, Chicago, IL 60602 for clients with domestic violence, family law and elder law cases.

Community Services

Appointments with a LAB attorney or paralegal also are available at the Cook County Domestic Violence Courthouse, 555 W. Harrison St. (for domestic violence) and at the following Metropolitan Family Services Centers:
