70-year-old “Susan” was suffering from anxiety and depression, and living with a 50-year-old daughter who was indigent, addicted to drugs and relied on Susan for financial support. They lived on a combined monthly income of $415 and no food stamps. The daughter did not take care of the home, and Susan started accumulating many stray animals.
Attempts for two years to get Susan to sell her home and move to a senior building were unsuccessful. Then her water was shut off in September, and her heat was shut off in winter. Susan’s situation had become unlivable.
Metropolitan staff was able to get Susan to visit a senior living facility, and she decided to make the move. Staff also found a realtor who was able to sell her house as it was, and Susan was able to comfortably transition her into her new home.
