One moment she was a happily married woman with a family and successful retailing career. Next she was struggling to bear tremendous financial and martial stress, leading her to be hospitalized for suicidal plans.
After being released from the hospital, “Karen” was struggling to live independently. After moving in with her son, she came to Metropolitan for help. A case worker and psychiatrist helped Karen control her symptoms through counseling and medication management. Metropolitan also encouraged Karen to remember and embrace her past successes which rekindled hope.
As Karen’s confidence grew she reached out to help others, volunteering at a battered women’s shelter. While there she connected with someone who helped her get a retail job interview. Though nervous, after two interviews she got the job.
”I feel that a miracle has happened!” Karen says. “I’m taking charge of my life and loving that I have a life to take charge of. I’ve been rapidly progressing through this new career and just facilitated a training for 150 people teaching them about this industry – that is awesome to me.”
“I can say clearly to myself and anyone who will listen I am back! That’s right, back, and it is primarily thanks to agencies like this that help to offer support and services that foster recovery in those who will hungrily seek it!”
