DANIEL’S STORY

Daniel heard about a job opportunity in the United States from someone he knew in his hometown. The job paid good money, and the hours would be full-time. He decided to take the job, so that he could earn money for his family back home.

When he came to the US, Daniel’s employer took his passport as soon as he arrived. Daniel worked long hours in the field for little pay. He was not paid for the extra time he worked. He did not get breaks, and was always tired.

Daniel decided that he had had enough. When he tried to leave, his employer would not give him his passport, or the wages he was due. Since his employer provided his housing and transportation, he didn’t have a way to leave.

What would you do, if you were in Daniel’s shoes?
