2010 Jazz at the Met

Thanks to all who made Jazz at the Met 2010 a fabulous event! Jazz, held at Metropolitan’s Calumet Center, raised more than $15,000 in net proceeds. Close to 200 guests enjoyed jazz by Liane Williams and The Beverly All-Stars, blues by Margaret Murphy, comedy by Tony Sculfield and a mouth-watering buffet.

Event proceeds benefit a wide range of vital programs and services that reach more than 8,000 individuals - ranging from babies to seniors - and families throughout Chicago’s Roseland community, on the city’s far South Side. Recent Metropolitan Calumet successes include:

  • Co-hosting "I Am a Queen," a day-long mentoring event that brought together 400 young ladies and 80 women professionals for an empowering day of mentoring and inspiration, held at Olive-Harvey College.
  • Equipping 19 high school seniors in our Upward Bound program to attend college this fall, a group that has been awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to schools such as Purdue University, Ball State and U of I. That also includes two students who each won $20,000 Dell Scholarships and computers from the Dell Foundation.

Metropolitan Calumet has been serving families throughout the Greater Roseland community for more than 50 years. Each year, more than 8,000 families and individuals struggling with poverty and violence turn to Metropolitan Calumet for vital and supportive services provided by professional, caring staff.
